My Story

I graduated from Franklin High on a Friday and started at LACC on that Monday. What a shock to have to do so much home work. I studied electronics at LACC for three years until I dropped a handball class, went below a full load, and got drafted. Vietnam was in full swing, so I decided to join the Naval Reserve in 1966. In 1967, I went to the Naval Fire Fighting School on Treasure Island in San Francisco for three months, and then got orders to the Naval Air Station in Atsugi, Japan. I never saw Vietnam. There were no billets open for a fire fighter on the flight line, so I worked with the Navy Seabees as an Engineering Aid until I left the Navy and Japan in 1969.

I entered Cal State LA in 1969. Studied Industrial Arts and completed my BA and teaching credential in 1972. I taught for seven years, then moved to the private sector. I became a technical support engineer, then a systems technical writer. I worked for various companies over the years, then became a freelance systems technical writer for 20 years before retiring.

I married in 1973 and have two children. We travel the world and enjoy dancing and genealogy research.
