Henry Sanchez

1964

His Story

After graduation from Franklin, Henry joined the Marine Corps. The Corps decided he would be a good Admin/Legal Clerk. He was assigned these duties when he was stationed at El Toro in Santa Ana and then at Yuma, AZ.

Henry kicked around for a few years after his discharge from the Marines. He worked with a community outreach program. He worked as an instructor for disadvantaged youths in a Youth Training & Employment Program. In 1974 he worked for the L.A. County Sheriff Department and as an aide for Councilman Stevenson in North East L. A. During these years he also attended East Los Angeles Community College and Cal State Los Angeles.

In 1975, he joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He thoroughly enjoyed being a fire fighter. He says, “It was the best job I ever had.”  In time he rose to the position of Fire Captain. After 31 1/2 years he retired in 2006 and went back to school to finish up his Bachelor’s Degree in addition classes in the Legal Asst. program.

Henry lives in Valencia, California with his wife and three daughters.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department for Retired and Active Fireman has a great article about being a fireman.
